GENERAL COMMENTS (detailed comments attached)
The Australian Association of Bush Regenerators - the peak organisation in NSW representing restoration practitioners - concerned that the new legislation will make conservation law much weaker in that it will:
* make it easier to clear land without any or minimum regulation
* make it easier for corporate farmers and property developers to clear land
* mean less (and more fragmented) native bushland and the extinction of more of our precious wildlife.
We wish to convey our very serious concerns about the legislation being likely to trigger further reduction and fragmentation of native vegetation, countering much of the good works governments and communities have achieved in recent decades - as well as our concern that this is occurring at precisely the time when increases (and less fragmentation) are needed to reduce climate change and help species adapt to it.
We have attached detailed points to this submission.
