WE ARE IN A CLIMATE CRISIS! Do not proceed with the Draft Biodiversity Conservation Act and Local Land Services Amendment Act. After the weakening of tree clearing controls in Queensland, more than 200,000 hectares of threatened species habitat was destroyed in the two years from July 2012 to July 2014. Thats the equivalent of nearly 5million house blocks. The loss of species habitat is truly shocking. Why would any government choose to push wildlife closer to the brink of extinction and undermine the sustainability of our farmland? DO NOT Repeal the Native Vegetation Act 2003 or Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995. DO NOT remove the requirement to maintain or improve biodiversity values. WHY would you choose to allow what will inevitably cause a decline in environmental outcomes, soil health, water quality and salinity Self-assessable codes that would allow landholders to clear trees with little oversight and biodiversity offsets are a recipe for disaster. Withdraw the Draft Biodiversity Conservation Act and Local Land Services Amendment Act and commit to laws which will genuinely improve outcomes for nature. Please count this as my submission to the proposed biodiversity conservation reform package. I give permission for this submission to be made public. Yours Sincerely, Catherine Coorey 2481
